Is smiling and laughing actually healthy for you?

~PearL~ asked:

I don’t remember what my mom use to say but she always said something about smiling and LAUGHING especially lightens your nerves or something. It makes me you happier, obviously.
People at my school also said if your life is filled with smiles and laughs than you’ll live longer! Just like eating blueberries!!

    apparently true

My motto in life is that if I can make just ONE person smile a day, then I’d be happy

    More is a bonus!!!!!!!!!!!

Absolutely! Research has shown health benefits of laughter ranging from strengthening the immune system to reducing food cravings to increasing one’s threshold for pain. There’s even an emerging therapeutic field known as humor therapy to help people heal more quickly, among other things. Humor also has several important stress relieving benefits.

Yes, it really is. Have a sense of humor, find things to share with people to laugh about. Enjoy life as best you can.

Absolutely!! Especially the laughing part…it exercises various parts of the body necessary to good health.

Include singing in this too. There was an article some 15 or so years ago in the New England Journal of Medicine to the effect that singing 15 minutes a day increases life an average of 20 years!

It’s a research conclusion we barbershop singers like to cite when trying to get people to try our hobby!
